LAIRE stand for live action interactive roleplaying explorers. This is an example of a subculture, because this is a society that exists not in "secret" but behind the scenes. Laire is very much outside the norm. Laire has their own "space" or place they can meet or have their battles, which every subculture needs. This is a subculture because everyone who participates in laire has something in common, and that is their interest in interactive roleplaying.

This picture from the movie American History X depicts a counterculture. In this picture is the leader of a gang which is for white supremecy. This is an example of a counterculture because it's trying to change the world. It's trying to rid this particular city of everyone other than "whites", they go into an asian owned and run store and trash the place, assault the workers, and rob the store. This is a counterculture because this group is contradicting everything that these not "white" people bring to the culture.

  1. These are great examples of both countercultures and subcultures. The one about the movie American History X is good because just like the movie you see how groups have different beliefs about what they believe in. And the subculture has the description of how people can like what other people like in the same group of a subculture.

  2. You did a great job on your examples for subculture and counterculture. The movie American History X is a great example of a subculture. In that movie they are all interested in "white power" and changing the world to make it a all white society. But when derek or whatever his real name is gets out of prison he has different ideas and completely changes how he feels regarding blacks and other races.

  3. The first picture is a great example of a Subculture, i know in Bowling Green there is a similar group called DAG. They use parks or open areas to meet in and battle. They are defiantly not hidden or reclusive, but it is still not a very popular event. They welcome any newcomers as long as they agree to follow the guidelines of battle.
